Harvard MBA Deadlines (2025)

Harvard Business School (HBS) operates on a two-round admissions system, unlike many other top MBA programs that offer three rounds. This structure emphasizes early applications and ensures that admitted candidates have adequate time to prepare for their transition to business school. Additionally, HBS offers a dedicated 2+2 deferred admission program for college students planning to gain work experience before enrolling.

In this evaluation of Harvard MBA Deadlines, we cover:

•    Harvard MBA - Application Deadlines
•    Harvard MBA - Decision Notification Timeline
•    Harvard 2+2 Program: Deferred Enrollment for Future Leaders - Deadlines

Harvard MBA - Application Deadlines

Harvard’s two-round system means that Round 1 is the most strategic time to apply, particularly for candidates aiming for merit-based scholarships, international applicants who require visa processing time, or those who want early clarity on their admission decision. Given HBS’s highly competitive selection process, applying in the first round may slightly improve an applicant’s chances by allowing them to compete for the largest number of available seats.

Round 2 remains a strong option, particularly for candidates who need additional time to refine their applications or gain relevant professional experience before submitting. However, competition can be more intense, as a significant portion of the class will have already been filled by Round 1 admits. Unlike schools that offer a Round 3, HBS does not provide an additional application cycle, reinforcing the importance of planning ahead.

The Harvard MBA application deadlines for the 2025 intake are as follows:

RoundsApplication Deadline
Round 104-Sep-24

Round 206-Jan-25

With the word limit typically in the 250 to 500 range, it is not easy to structure the essay without losing momentum.

As F1GMAT’s Lead Consultant and Essay Specialist, I will help you structure the essay by:

1)  Incorporating your Personal Brand

I will help you find unique life experiences that would differentiate you from the highly competitive Harvard MBA application pool.

2)  Including Storytelling elements

I have developed a keen sense of storytelling from over a decade and a half of editing essays and writing essay examples for F1GMAT’s Essay Guides including F1GMAT's Harvard MBA Essay Guide.

The skills that a writer/editor brings to the table are different from what a former admissions officer or a consultant who has limited writing skills brings

Review Skills # Writing Skills
Movie Critics # Movie Directors

It is easy to comment, but it is tough to structure the essay from the perspective of the applicant and turn the essay into a winning application essay.

3) Aligning with the Culture of the School

A big part of editing and guiding applicants is in educating them about the culture of the school

Stanford has very ‘specific’ traits that they are looking for in an applicant.

If you don’t highlight them and lean towards general leadership or cultural narratives, the essay won’t work.

I will guide you through the writing process.

I will also iteratively edit the essays without losing your original voice.

Harvard MBA - Decision Notification Timeline

Candidates admitted in Round 1 will have ample time to prepare for enrollment, finalize financial aid, and transition smoothly into the MBA program. Round 2 applicants receive decisions by late March, allowing sufficient—though slightly less—time to make arrangements before the fall semester begins. HBS releases its admissions decisions on the following dates:

RoundsNotification of Board's Decision
Round 110-Dec-24

Round 226-Mar-25

Harvard 2+2 Program: Deferred Enrollment for Future Leaders - Deadlines

Harvard’s 2+2 Program is a deferred admission pathway designed for students currently in undergraduate or full-time master’s programs who plan to gain two to four years of work experience before starting their MBA. This program caters to high-achieving candidates from diverse academic backgrounds, including STEM, humanities, and social sciences.

The application deadlines for the 2+2 Program are as follows:

2+2 Round EventsDates
Application Deadline23-Apr-25

Notification of Board's Decision26-Jun-25

With only two main rounds for MBA admissions, HBS requires applicants to be deliberate in their timing. Whether applying through the standard process or the 2+2 Program, candidates must ensure they submit a well-prepared application that aligns with Harvard’s expectations for leadership, impact, and innovation.
