MIT MBA Events - January 2026

In January, MIT Sloan School of Management is hosting 19 MBA-related events, comprising 3 virtual events and 16 in-person events. The month is heavily focused on global, student-led engagement through in-person coffee chats across multiple cities, complemented by a small set of admissions-focused virtual sessions for applicants seeking application guidance and deferred MBA insights.

In-Person Events

The in-person events are centered around MBA In-Person Student-hosted Coffee Chats, informal small-group sessions that allow prospective students to connect directly with current MIT Sloan MBA students and learn about the program experience. These coffee chats are scheduled on 2 January in Mexico City, 3 January in Orange County, 4 January and 12 January in New Delhi, 6 January and 12 January in New York City, 7 January in Santiago and 7 January in Dubai, 9 January in Monterrey, 10 January in Cambridge, 11 January in Hong Kong, 14 January in Henderson, 15 January in West Hollywood, 17 January in Hyderabad, 22 January in Arlington, and 31 January in Boston. Each session offers an informal setting to ask questions, gain firsthand insights into student life, and engage with the MIT Sloan community across regions.

Cover Letter Question: Please submit a cover letter seeking a place in the MIT Sloan MBA program. Your letter should conform to standard business correspondence, include one or more professional examples that illustrate why you meet the desired criteria above, and be addressed to the Admissions Committee (300 words or fewer, excluding address and salutation).

Short Answer Question: How has the world you come from shaped who you are today? For example, your family, culture, community, all help to shape aspects of your identity. Please use this opportunity if you would like to share more about your background. (250 words or less.)

Video Questions

Question 1: Introduce yourself to your future classmates. Here’s your chance to put a face with a name, let your personality shine through, be conversational, be yourself. We can’t wait to meet you!

Question 2: All MBA applicants will be prompted to respond to a randomly generated, open-ended question. The question is designed to help us get to know you better; to see how you express yourself and to assess fit with the MIT Sloan culture. It does not require prior preparation.

Video Question 2 is part of your required application materials and will appear as a page within the application, once the other parts of your application are completed. Applicants are given 10 seconds to prepare for a 60-second response.

The following are examples of questions that may be asked in the Video Question 2:
•    What achievement are you most proud of and why?
•    Tell us about a time a classmate or colleague wasn’t contributing to a group project. What did you do?

During these events, attendees can meet the admissions team and alumni, participate in campus tours, attend admissions overviews with Q&A, experience mock classes, and join networking receptions or lunches with current students, providing an immersive introduction to the MIT Sloan MBA experience.

The skills that a writer/editor brings to the table are different from what a former admissions officer or a consultant who has limited writing skills brings

It is easy to comment, but it is tough to structure the essay from the perspective of the applicant and turn the essay into a winning application essay.

3) Aligning with the Culture of the School

A big part of editing and guiding applicants is in educating them about the culture of the school

Some schools have very ‘specific’ traits that they are looking for in an applicant.

If you don’t highlight them and lean towards general leadership or cultural narratives, the essay won’t work.

I will guide you through the writing process.

I will also iteratively edit the essays without losing your original voice.

Virtual Events

The virtual events include three distinct sessions. On 5 January, prospective applicants can attend the MBA Application Tips Webinar, led by the admissions team, which provides guidance on the MIT Sloan MBA application process and concludes with a live Q&A. On 9 January, the MIT Sloan MBA & SFMBA Virtual Admissions Office Hour offers a flexible, drop-in opportunity to ask individualized questions about the MBA and SFMBA application process. Later in the month, on 27 January, MIT Sloan participates in Top Business Schools Discuss: Application Advice for Deferred MBA Programs, a virtual panel where admissions representatives from MIT and peer schools share strategies and insights for deferred MBA applicants, followed by an interactive Q&A.
