In January 2026, Yale School of Management (SOM) is hosting 15 MBA-related events, comprising 2 virtual events and 13 in-person events. The month is heavily oriented toward global, in-person community engagement through winter socials across major cities worldwide, complemented by a small number of virtual sessions focused on application guidance.
Virtual Events
The virtual events include a Round 2 Application Q&A on 5 January, a 45-minute interactive session where applicants can ask the admissions committee questions about the application process ahead of the deadline. Later in the month, on 27 January, Yale SOM participates in Top Business Schools Discuss: Application Advice for Deferred MBA Programs, a virtual panel featuring Yale and peer schools that offers strategic guidance on deferred MBA pathways, insights into Yale’s deferred option, and a live Q&A with admissions representatives.
Essay 1: Describe the biggest commitment you have ever made. Why is this commitment meaningful to you and what actions have you taken to support it?
Essay 2: Describe the community that has been most meaningful to you. What is the most valuable thing you have gained from being a part of this community and what is the most important thing you have contributed to this community?
Essay 3: Describe the most significant challenge you have faced. How have you confronted this challenge and how has it shaped you as a person?

It is easy to comment, but it is tough to structure the essay from the perspective of the applicant and turn the essay into a winning application essay.
3) Aligning with the Culture of the School
A big part of editing and guiding applicants is in educating them about the culture of the school
Some schools have very ‘specific’ traits that they are looking for in an applicant.
If you don’t highlight them and lean towards general leadership or cultural narratives, the essay won’t work.

In-Person Events
The in-person events consist entirely of Winter Socials, informal gatherings designed to help prospective students connect with current Yale SOM students and learn about the program and community in a relaxed setting. These take place on 5 January in Seoul; 6 January in Shenzhen; 7 January in Mumbai, Jakarta, London, and Mexico City; 8 January in Beijing; 10 January in Singapore, Mumbai, Milan, and Boston; 12 January in New York City; and 14 January in Lima. Together, these events reflect Yale SOM’s strong emphasis on global outreach and peer-to-peer engagement at the start of the year.
