Why Stanford MBA - Essay Structure

Paragraph one: The applicant cleverly starts with a recent example where he had to test a novel product that recognized emotions and recommended content based on one’s emotional state. By highlighting his background in designing cars and understanding the influences that finally translate to a design, he suggests a solution that transforms the CTO’s perspective on the app’s utility.


Paragraph two: He reiterates his achievements as a design engineer and the impact he had as a pro-bono consultant for startups. And concludes by stating his belief on what is possible with the skill set.

Paragraph three: The Stanford MBA program’s experiential learning programs are quoted for its interpersonal skills and the value is mapped to the applicant’s post-MBA goals.

Paragraph four: The elective focus in Strategic Management and the courses are listed to achieve the applicant’s goal of receiving an offer as a Product Manager.

Paragraph five: The concluding paragraph is the first-hand impression the applicant witnessed with the Stanford MBA program. A statement reiterating the value of the MBA program is used as the closing line.

I recently tested a product that interpreted our facial expression to determine the news and articles for our mood. The technology team made several assumptions on how people consume, scroll, click videos, and engage with negative, neutral, and positive content. Growing up, I was obsessed with interpreting car designs - the decisions that came from tax laws, and the cultures that impacted the shape, size, colors, and the choices inside the car. When I offered a design solution that went beyond facial expression, the CTO realized the potential of the product to serve us as a companion app.
