How to Incorporate Creativity traits into the Columbia Fit Essay

Columbia MBA Essay #2: We believe Columbia Business School is a special place. CBS proudly fosters a collaborative learning environment through curricular experiences like our clusters and learning teams, an extremely active co-curricular and student life environment, and career mentorship opportunities like our Executives-in-Residence program.

Why do you feel Columbia Business School is a good fit for you academically, culturally, and professionally? Please be specific. (Maximum 250 Words)

Creativity - Narrative

Creativity is overrated. None of our inventions, apart from the Printing Press, Wheels, Spacecraft, Telephone, Internet (www), and Television, are creative. It is all ‘iterations’ or ‘mixes and matches’ of existing technologies.

Creativity is not original thinking.

Creativity is context-dependent.

The gloves used in the Mario Bros game in the 80s are creative thinking from the creator - Shigeru Miyamoto, to cover up for the lack of pixels to capture a hand.

Was it a pathbreaking earth-bending life-saving creativity? No.

Using solutions from resource constraints is creativity for the Columbia MBA admissions team. Don’t make creativity the core narrative in your Fit Essay unless you have a patent or your contributions with a solution had a visible IMPACT on your organization.

Without capturing the limitations of the company, project, technology, process, or budget, creativity rarely is captured convincingly in an essay.
