Creative Consulting Solutions & Mental Health - Kellogg MBA: Motivation Essay

Kellogg MBA Essay One: Intentionality is a key aspect of what makes our graduates successful Kellogg leaders. Help us understand your journey by articulating your motivations for pursuing an MBA, the specific goals you aim to achieve, and why you believe now is the right moment. Moreover, share why you feel Kellogg is best suited to serve as a catalyst for your career aspirations and what you will contribute to our community of lifelong learners during your time here.

Background Information: A consultant shares her journey to improve user engagement for an online summer school program and the gaps in her skills to serve a dynamic global market. She also shares the mental health epidemic that cuts across age groups and cultures – solutions of which she plans to start at Kellogg.

Theme: Creativity, Education, Mental Health

Theme (Explained): Educational themes could be overused, but if your primary contribution, either as a consultant or with a non-profit, has been in improving educational outcomes or user engagement (EduTech App), strategically highlight your role in the outcome. For consultants, it is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your collaboration, process innovation and the larger vision for the problem.

Profile: Consultant

Industry: Education

MBA Essay Strategy: I wanted to use a W-pattern narrative where the opening paragraph are about the progress while immediately taking the readers to the challenges – low student engagement. Some of the thinking captured either in non-profit narratives or themes that have universal appeal could dramatically improve the believability of your essays. By starting with a narrative on how you solved a problem, you share an aspect of your thinking – how you interpret, evaluate, and formulate the problem in 5-10 lines. Unlike solutions that were technical in most narratives, essays written by a consultant often decode the same problem in multiple contexts – offering reviewers a perspective in favor of your candidacy.

I have also worked the most in finding a transition to pivot from the Education theme to the mental health theme and then to the choice of a major at Kellogg MBA.

Dedicate most time on your transitions. It is the single most ignored aspect of an MBA Essay. Most applicants work hard on their openers and conclusion, leaving out theme transitions.

Opener: Starting with the problem statement – in this case, the collaborative effort is the best way to start a goals essay.

Soon, we realized that despite parents supervising the kids, they often multitask – many working from home while the sessions were conducted. For the next iteration, we included audio elements in instructions – a small change ..
