In July 2024, Columbia Business School has scheduled a total of forty-eight events, offering 39 in-person, 4 On-Campus, and five online events to provide prospective students with comprehensive insights into their MBA program and facilitate networking opportunities.
The MBA Campus Visits allows participants to visit the Columbia campus in Manhattanville and interact with the admissions team and current students. These events are scheduled on July 8, 10, 22, and 25.

Let us start with the industry trends for Columbia MBA graduates:
In the fourth and final part of the Columbia MBA Salary Series for the 2023 graduating class, we cover top Employers recruiting at Columbia Business School.
Consulting firms, as evident from the table below, were prominent among the top employers, with McKinsey & Company leading the charge with 77 total hires, including 39 sponsored students.
The Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company also made significant contributions, with 39 and 30 hires, respectively, showcasing the program's strong ties to the consulting industry.
In the third part of the Columbia MBA Series for the 2023 graduating class, we cover job offer percentages in international locations and the US.
The 86% placements in the US is a risky statistics for Columbia as most top US MBA programs have a 90%+ placements. Perhaps the Operations and Brand/Product Management functions and even the Venture Capital industry that had a stellar year in Europe drove the trend attracting 5% of hires.
Asia emerges as another destination for Columbia MBA graduates, constituting 4% of placements.

Consulting crossed the 41.50% benchmark as in other strong consulting schools (Tuck, Ross, Duke Fuqua, and Kellogg). The higher representation is driven by a strong consulting curriculum, a median base salary of $190,000, and guaranteed compensation of $30,000.
Columbia Business School has two entries - the J-Term and the regular fall entry. For military applicants, regular entry is recommended as most are transitioning from military to corporate careers – especially Finance, which requires internships. With a legacy of hosting West Point - the prestigious military academy with a 200-year legacy, New York's location advantage is the leverage for CBS, too.
The question has remained the same for the past seven years – an indication that the admission team has been able to gauge the mind of the applicant through the short but necessary question for your MBA Application. The idea is to create a mission statement for your career.
Short Answer Question: What is your immediate post-MBA professional goal? (50 characters maximum)
The Wharton MBA program is a 20-month program with an intensive, cross-functional core curriculum that teaches the fundamentals of business as well as leadership, communication, and analytical skills. Students may specialize in one or more areas by selecting from 21 majors and more than 200 complementary electives.
Columbia received 6177 applications for the class of 2024, of which 847 enrolled, whereas Wharton received 6319 applications, out of which 877 students enrolled. Despite a small enrolment variation between both schools, the acceptance ratio remained the same at 14%.
Today I will share the three major differences between Wharton and Columbia MBA programs on class profile, curriculum and post-MBA placement trends.
Another great opportunity for applicants to highlight in the essay is the Executive in Residence at Columbia MBA. Each year close to 10-15% of the EIR mentors’ change. Be mindful of this when you are quoting the EIR.
The Columbia MBA stands out among the M7 Schools for having the highest median sign-on bonus of $56,000 compared to the industry average of $50,000. The school drew the second-highest total compensation in investment banking - $225,000, in the same period.

The MBA Class of 2024 at Columbia Business School welcomed 844 new members, with 629 commencing their studies in August and 215 in January. For this year’s class, CBS received 6,177 applications, compared to 6,535 for the Class of 2023. The 2024 class also accepted 100+ students (1363) over the 2023 class (1215) while maintaining strong entry criteria – an average GMAT score of 729 and GPA of 3.6
On the diversity front, Columbia Business School leads in balancing the women, international, and US minority representation. The percentage of women in the class increased to 44%, up 3% from the previous year. The international representation of students is the highest at Columbia MBA for a top US Business School at 51%, while 39% were from US minorities, including Hispanic/Latinx, Black/African American, and Asian American communities.
When the average age of Entrepreneurs is 42 in the US, you know that a popular myth of the early 20s hood-wearing tech Entrepreneur is a narrative that works in Silicon Valley for the 1% who make it. For the rest of the 99% hood-wearing ramen noodles eating drifters, the 6-month ‘attempt’ at Entrepreneurship is soon followed by taking the routine 9-9 job. Business School’s expectation of entrepreneurial thinking is different from how a traditional Entrepreneur thinks.
