Empowering Women in Healthcare (292 Words): Tuck MBA Contribute Essay Example

Q) Tell us who you are. How have your values and experiences shaped your identity and character? How will your background contribute to the diverse Tuck culture and community?

Background Information: A Product Manager in Healthcare shares her experience in transforming the culture in a healthcare company to support working mothers.

Theme: Gender Equity, Working Mothers

Theme (Explained): Working mothers is unlikely to be a theme for the 25 to 28-aged application pool, but if you are in an industry where the challenges faced by senior women professionals are obvious, highlighting the challenges will resonate with a majority of women's MBA admissions team.

Profile: Product Manager

Industry: Healthcare

MBA Essay Strategy: For the essay, I wanted to build empathy for the applicant as the culture of the company doesn’t allow women professionals to grow into senior roles.

The switch to the second company and the pandemic created new opportunities for the applicant to introduce a flexible work-from-home policy in the company.

I didn’t want to create a top-down – “I strategized, and it worked” narrative. Instead, the essay explains an incentive that encouraged men to cooperate with working mothers.

Such incentives bring authenticity to the narrative.

Opener: I wanted to capture a lull before the storm as a strategy for building up the narrative of the 2020-22 boom in the healthcare industry.

Writer’s Note: Always build the story. Don’t use shock and awe as an opener unless the event is truly unique or traumatic (by any standards)

<_X> had an entrepreneurial approach to policies. I utilized the opportunity and worked with three senior women managers to start the Women in Healthcare initiative.
