Sample Yale SOM MBA Commitment Essay - Entrepreneurship

Yale SOM MBA Commitment Essay: Describe the biggest commitment you have ever made. Why is this Commitment meaningful to you, and what actions have you taken to support it?

For start-up entrepreneurs, commitment is synonymous with their survival. Unlike job functions, grit is a quality that differentiates would-be entrepreneurs from ‘successful’ ones. Anecdotal evidence is required to offer scope. With less than 3% of MBA candidates from top MBA programs, on average, pursuing their Entrepreneurial career post-MBA, Yale SOM fares much lower at 1.2%.

Although the Entrepreneurship Program at Yale is a recent initiative (2014), the curriculum is structured to help a wide range of aspiring Entrepreneurs gain specialized knowledge in Social Enterprises, Healthcare and Life Science, and Real Estate. The Foundation of Entrepreneurial Knowledge is offered by covering programming (technology), communication, raising funds (Venture Capital & PE Investments), investing (impact, start-up), and managing change (market, people & technology).

In some instances, the Entrepreneurial pursuit is synonymous with creativity and intrapreneurship, where candidates handling key projects in established companies introduce new systems or processes to challenge traditional models of Business or incorporate Technology into the process cycle.

The learning curve is steep for first-time entrepreneurs, but if you theme your narrative around the commitment to your bigger purpose, the essay can reveal how you think and the sacrifice you made on personal priorities to achieve the milestones.
