Background Information: While volunteering for a non-profit out of NYC that helps single mothers budget SNAP - a fund provided every month by the US government for low-income families, the applicant realizes the hardship single mothers face.

Theme: Financial Insecurity, Healthy Eating, Responsible marketing, Domestic Violence

Theme (Explained): Financial insecurity, when compounded by unhealthy eating habits and dysfunctional relationships, can ruin the future of children raised in low-income families.

The multi-prone attack on the challenges with ‘responsible’ marketing is a unique solution to the first problem low-income families face – obesity and type-2 diabetes.

MBA Essay Strategy: Instead of lobbying for legislative solutions to include a healthy food mandate for SNAP funds, the applicant charts an unconventional solution with marketing and branding.

For the essay, the first half is crafted in such a way as to build on the multiple struggles a single mother faces. I wanted to reiterate that the choice of healthy food for the family is the last thing on her mind. 

Under such stress, choices available in the supermarkets largely determine the consumption pattern. 

With strategic collaboration, incentives, and responsible marketing, the applicant could empower single mothers to choose healthy food for their families.

Opener: Starting with a trauma line is the best way to highlight an issue that plagues our society.
