INSEAD MBA Job Description Essay: What would be your next step in terms of position if you were to remain in the same company? (200 Words)

Profile Example: A profile with 5 years of experience with one boutique Investment Banking firm and now a mid-sized investment banking firm in a managerial role. He directly manages – two analysts in the wealth management department and one analyst indirectly from the research desk. The organization is a mid-sized company with a flat hierarchy.

Job Title Hierarchy - Boutique Firms

Analyst -> Manager (Applicant)  -> Vice President -> Managing Director -> Promoter/Owner.


Mid-Sized (Second Job): Manager

Start-up (First Job): Analyst

Change in Titles - Clearly Mention in the Essay

The change in the title should be obvious when the job change is mentioned. In this case – Analyst to Manager. While mentioning the next role – list out the responsibilities and contrast them with the current responsibilities. Also, mention the gap in experience that you have to reach the next role.

Flat Organizations - Returning to the Employer

For flat organizations, it is typically 5-10 years that a 1-year MBA program could fill but to offer a realistic perspective, mention other roles that the organization could create with the new qualification. For this example, the applicant’s goal is to return to the employer. Hence the narrative of creating another role that has been promised verbally by the senior management. Access to a global network is a consequential factor for deals to close, and it fits perfectly with INSEAD’s USP.

Question 3: Give a candid description of yourself as a person and a leader, emphasising the strengths and weaknesses you recognise in yourself. Explain how you are actively working on your development, sharing key experiences that have shaped you, providing specific examples where relevant. (500 words)

Question 4: Describe a highly stressful situation you faced and how you managed it. What did this experience teach you about yourself and your interactions with others? (400 words)
