The applicant had assumed that Vaccine hesitation was a uniquely republican trait until he met Jamal – a democrat with a college education working in Technology. The tragic spread of COVID-19 and the high fatalities in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods from lack of pharmacy and unreliable internet connections for booking appointments are factors that the applicant quotes.

Historic distrust against doctors, who often limited intervention when minorities emphasized the severity of their symptoms, have led Quasi-Doctors from social media to take on the role of the family doctor. The platform’s tendency to stir conversation and boost controversial figures led to a cycle of vaccine hesitancy.

The concluding paragraph mentions the applicant’s approach that solved the problem and turned around the vaccine participation rate among the minority communities.

I used to judge vaccine hesitation as the gullibility of republicans caught up in the anti-establishment rhetoric until I met Jamal. As a black college-educated Technologist from Chicago, his neighborhood didn’t have a pharmacy where most first round of COVID-19 vaccination drives was hosted. He hesitated, infecting both his parents, who passed away a month before I met him. Although he had insurance, a disproportionately high number of young Black and Latino citizens didn’t have any, limiting sessions with a Doctor. Information spread by quasi-doctors through Social Media, and the platform’s affinity for controversy turned the narrative in favor of the deniers.
