Sample LBS MBA Goals Essay: Wealth Management to Product Management

In this example, we look at the fictitious profile of a Wealth Manager, who started her career in a renowned private banking company in London. The traditional career path received a big pivot when a friend was starting a venture in the corporate education market and wanted a person who had the vision to find opportunities in a highly competitive market.

As a person who is used to pitching Wealthy investors, the applicant knew the dynamics of incentivizing the uber-rich – most of who were first-generation entrepreneurs with companies, products, and technology under their management. The success she witnessed in transforming an unknown start-up’s flagship product to a strategic toolkit among two leading technology companies changed her outlook on what is possible.

Although at an operational and Sales & Marketing level, she felt that her contribution was impactful, the applicant believes that real change happens as a Product Manager.

Considered the CEO of a Product, the role requires multi-perspective thinking and an end to end understanding of market, products, technology, and incentivizing the team – a combination of skills she hopes to acquire through the LBS MBA program.
