In the first example, we share the journey of an applicant, who has a natural inclination to find bigger opportunities. Starting as a Technologist, his keen sense of observation and listening skills, helped him earn $5mn for the company. The transition from a Technologists to a Consultant encouraged the applicant to consider Management Consulting. Kellogg MBA becomes the obvious bridge. The first half of the essay narrates the events that transitioned him to Consulting. The second half goes through the specifics of the MBA course and how the majors, tracks, and global experiential learning will help him grow as a professional and a person.

Essay #2: Pursuing an MBA is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. How have you grown in the past? How do you intend to grow at Kellogg? (450 words)

I stumbled onto growth opportunities by embracing one mantra – go beyond my comfort zone. As a technologist, we often get opportunities to be part of project kickoff events. My first employer sent me to one such meeting where the discussion was mostly about the impact of the project and the problem it was trying to solve. During the discussion on the challenges of integrating the banking software, with a communication framework, I came across a scenario where the employer's in-house product would solve the problem. Although we had strict rules on communicating across roles, I reached out to the Project Manager and eventually the CEO. Surprised by my observation, the immediate reaction was "why is he taking up the role of a Consultant?" However, the Manager endorsed my recommendation. The company sold the product to the Bank, bringing in over $5 million in revenue. In a couple of months, I was promoted as a Consultant for the in-house flagship product -<name>.
