I stumbled onto growth opportunities by embracing one mantra – go beyond my comfort zone. As a technologist, we often get opportunities to be part of project kickoff events. My first employer sent me to one such meeting where the discussion was mostly about the impact of the project and the problem it was trying to solve. During the discussion on the challenges of integrating the banking software, with a communication framework, I came across a scenario where the employer's in-house product would solve the problem. Although we had strict rules on communicating across roles, I reached out to the Project Manager and eventually the CEO. Surprised by my observation, the immediate reaction was "why is he taking up the role of a Consultant?" However, the Manager endorsed my recommendation.
