Background Information: The fifth Essay is of a White Male Bostonian from a blue-collar neighborhood working in Real Estate Consulting. 

Theme: Mentorship, ESG

Theme (Explained): As one of the cities with the highest risk of defaults, Boston is trying to mitigate the low occupancy in commercial real estate with higher taxes. The applicant, a real estate developer, is pivoting to real estate financing and planning for 2030 and beyond when an even more disrupted Gen Z will be the primary market for commercial and residential real estate transactions.

MBA Essay Strategy: Seeking mentorship from Columbia’s network could take many forms. From professors who are practitioners to executives in residence to international peers from countries with evolved policy or infrastructure laws, the opportunities are plenty. For the applicant, the narrative is ‘specific’ to the evolving ESG norms in real estate. To plan before regulations, affect the costs of construction and to package his services, the applicant needs strategic guidance on customizing his offering to a new demographic – Gen Z.
