Today, I have a question from a reader who asks – which program is the easiest to get into – Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton MBA.
The three schools have different selection criteria and class composition. If I were you, I would look at the culture of the schools and the personality traits that the school values.
Out of 6,194 applicants, 874 candidates were accepted into the Wharton MBA Class of 2025. Half of the class is represented by women, and 31% is international. The class had an average undergraduate GPA of 3.6. The Wharton Class of 2025 scored 728 on average in GMAT with an average 5 years of experience.
Wharton MBA has set a new record on crossing the 52% women percentage in the class while also crossing another milestone – reaching a $200,000 total salary for the Investment Banking function. The school’s strength in attracting excellent Finance offers has led career switchers and career enhancers to leverage the Wharton brand.
The Wharton MBA program is a 20-month program with an intensive, cross-functional core curriculum that teaches the fundamentals of business as well as leadership, communication, and analytical skills. Students may specialize in one or more areas by selecting from 21 majors and more than 200 complementary electives.
Columbia received 6177 applications for the class of 2024, of which 847 enrolled, whereas Wharton received 6319 applications, out of which 877 students enrolled. Despite a small enrolment variation between both schools, the acceptance ratio remained the same at 14%.
Today I will share the three major differences between Wharton and Columbia MBA programs on class profile, curriculum and post-MBA placement trends.
Wharton’s strength in Finance was intact, with Investment Banking and the Private Equity industries attracting 24.3% of the hires, while 27.3% of the post-MBA job function was also in the Finance specialization.
The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School received 6,319 applications, a 14% decrease from the previous year. 877 applicants were admitted to the Class of 2024. One hundred eighty students, or around 20% of the class, are enrolled in Wharton's four multidisciplinary and dual degree programs.
The Class of 2024 continued to have an all-time high average GMAT score of 733.
Despite a 2% dip, the class still maintains gender parity, with 50% female candidates. Thirty-five percent of the new class are international, representing 77 different nations. This is comparable to the class of 2023's 36%.

Chicago Booth and Wharton offer world-class MBA programs. The top-ranking programs - one known as a Finance school and the other as a Consulting powerhouse are tough to compare with just the post-MBA salary or cost.
June 6th, 2022: Wharton has announced the deadlines and essays for the 2023 entering class, a.k.a the 2025 graduating class. The three deadlines for the MBA applications are September 7th, 2022, January 4th, 2023, March 29th, 2023, and Deferred Admissions Round (April 26th, 2023).
