FT - Ranking Methodology (2022)
The 2022 ranking methodology marks the entry of ESG factors with a 3% weightage, replacing corporate social responsibility. Salary-related factors still contribute to 40% of the weightage, reiterating FT’s focus on return on investment.
FT research rank – the second-highest ranking factor, which has the same weightage as last year, calculates the number of journal articles published in proportion to the size of the faculty for a particular school.
International mobility was the fourth largest ranking factor that considers the locations of alumni pre-MBA and post-MBA. International faculty and international students in fifth place had the same weightage.
Alumni responses contribute to eight factors, weighing 61% of the ranking. The results of COVID will be strikingly evident in the rankings from the next year as salary increases are calculated as a weighted average over a period of three years.

Top 10 MBA Ranking (Career Aims Achieved)
The career aims achieved are calculated based on changes in location, job function, and industry with the increase in salary assumed with the change.
The pandemic has induced an accelerated shift of jobs towards healthcare and technology-based roles. The data captured is based on alumni profiles pre-pandemic and might not capture the intention behind the transition.
More than half of the 94 schools in the rankings by career aims achieved feature US schools – indicating brand association with top schools, access to alumni, and change in location, industry, and function as equally important goals as the increase in salary.
Stanford leads in the career aims achieved due to the $200,000+ base salary in leading functions and strong brand recall among global recruiters.

Expect Skewed Results – Next Year
The FT rankings are largely based on a return on investment. Since the alumni experience captured is based on the past three years, the absence of the seven US leading schools in the past two years will heavily skew the outcome of the rankings in favor of leading European, and 10-20 ranked US schools.
