What the 2026 FT MBA Ranking Means for Your Application Strategy
Financial Times is one of the rankings you must use to shortlist your top 5 or top 7 MBA programs. There are simpler ways to rank based on post-MBA salary increase, even more accurate immediate return on investment calculations using Net Present Value, or use an aggregate ranking methodology from US News, FT and Bloomberg.
Eventually, the goal of all these rankings for you is to get a broader sense of the rankings, not to use only the rankings for your top 5 or top 7 list.
Evaluate the 5-year salary trends, do a deep dive into the curriculum of top MBA programs and understand the changing industry trends to see if an MBA from the listed school is worth the $250,000 to $300,000 cost and over $200,000 to $350,000 in opportunity costs.
FT 2026 - MBA Ranking Methodology
In line with previous years' methodology, the latest FT Global MBA Ranking maintains its emphasis on diversity and sustainability.
With all criteria remaining unchanged from the previous editions, the ranking continues to prioritize outcome measures, including post-MBA salary, value for money, and career progression. Notably, the evaluation of post-MBA salary three years after graduation remains a significant factor, contributing 16% towards the ranking.
The inclusion of environmental considerations, such as carbon footprint rank and ESG teaching, underscores the growing importance of sustainability in business education.

It is easy to comment, but it is tough to structure the essay from the perspective of the applicant and turn the essay into a winning application essay.
3) Aligning with the Culture of the School
A big part of editing and guiding applicants is in educating them about the culture of the school
Some schools have very ‘specific’ traits that they are looking for in an applicant.
If you don’t highlight them and lean towards general leadership or cultural narratives, the essay won’t work.
I will guide you through the writing process.
I will also iteratively edit the essays without losing your original voice.

Research Rank's Influence on Ranking
The ranking shifts are unlikely to be contributed by sustainability but from the 10 points allocated for FT Research rank, based on the papers published by faculty in top academic journals. A research-driven university is likely to outsmart a top-tier standalone MBA program. Applicants must consider this ‘big’ factor while looking at the overall rank.
International Mobility
Another two factors that can contribute towards skewed results are 5 points allocated for international mobility and 5 points for value for money. Such metrics often don’t take into consideration the mid-term value of starting with an impressive post-MBA salary despite the 3-4 years it takes to recover the cost of a Top MBA program.
MBA Ranking: Increase in Salary
In a notable shift, schools with strong regional placements continue to lead in percentage salary increase.
Advantage Asian Schools - Currency conversion, Local Placements, and Borrowing in Same Currency
Asian schools are all ranking from currency conversion and the relatively low cost of living in the region.
Post-MBA locations are rarely international in these schools.
The cost of borrowing and salary are all streamlined in the same currency, contributing towards an impressive ROI.
Except for top schools, the weighted salary for other high-increase schools is still below leading US programs, emphasizing the need for applicants to not isolate cost as a standalone factor but as an important investment to earn this differential in post-MBA salary.
The starting pay post-MBA often determines lifetime earning capacity if you are planning to continue in traditional employer-driven careers. Brand matters.
