Even though she had a positive impact on the lives of women and children migrating from oppressive regimes, an encounter with a Kellogg MBA Alumnus and a Technology Entrepreneur opened up ideas to upgrade her skills.

Essay #2: Pursuing an MBA is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. How have you grown in the past? How do you intend to grow at Kellogg? (450 words)

My career choice has always been driven by a desire to see my work impact the disadvantaged. In high-school, I raised $10,000 and helped rehabilitate the homeless in <neighborhood>. The choice of Economics as a major meant that a career in Corporate Finance was a logical choice. But my inner calling led me to <x> - a non-profit that rehabilitated over 30,000 women and children from war-torn countries and oppressive regimes, into the United States.

While interacting with fund-raisers, I saw that the messaging was customized from our perspective and not on the impact the donation would have on the company’s brand value. By presenting my strategy to customize the messaging and invite Presidents, Directors, and Partners of Fortune 500 companies to the Board, we were able to improve the donation yield by 27%.

The Chairman promoted me from Budgeting to Marketing, and I evolved from a functional problem-solver to a strategic advisor.
