Administered by the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, The Black Family Fellowship supports U.S. veterans and active-duty military students pursue advanced degrees.
Sequence of MBA, Law and Other Harvard Kennedy School programs - Access to Fellowship
Applicants starting their time at Harvard Kennedy School and choosing a Master’s program should apply through the Harvard Kennedy School financial aid portal.
For applicants applying to Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School independently the Black Family Fellowship Application is directly available.
Joint and concurrent degree program students are also encouraged to apply.
Amount: Up to $20,000 per year
Number of Awards: 5-8 U.S. veterans and active-duty military students annually
Criteria/Eligibility
• Veterans of the United States Armed Forces or active-duty military students serving the United States.
• Fellowship supports degrees including a JD at Harvard Law School, an MBA at Harvard Business School, or a master's degree at Harvard Kennedy School
Essays for the The Black Family Fellowship (Veterans)
1. Please discuss an issue you are passionate about as it pertains to improving the public good – what issue(s) are you passionate about working on, and what are your experiences as it relates to this topic? Please use specific examples in your response (500 words or less)
2 Please describe areas of leadership growth or opportunity you hope to pursue while a student at HKS (200 words or less)
Additional Documents: Apart from essays, a biographical profile, not to exceed 150 words, and two letters of recommendation are also required
Deadlines: Mid-April (after the US Round 2 deadline)
