Total Cost (Yale MBA) (1 Year)

For one year, the Yale MBA program costs $123,936, which includes $87,800 in tuition, $500 in one-time program fees, $30,774 in room, board, and personal expenses, $1,440 in textbooks and photocopies, and $3,422 in health insurance.

The cost of attendance is the total cost for one academic year. It is designed for a single student with a modest lifestyle and shared housing.

Students at Yale University are required to have insurance. The figure displayed is an estimate based on the cost of Yale's insurance for a single student in 2025-26. Students who have alternative hospitalization insurance may be exempt from Yale Health coverage.

Total MBA Cost: 2024-25 VS 2025-26

For the 2025–26 academic year, the total cost of attendance for a single student at the Yale School of Management MBA program has increased to $123,936, up from $119,110 in 2024–25. This marks a year-over-year increase of approximately 4.05%.

The largest contributor to this rise is tuition, which has gone up by $2,900, from $84,900 to $87,800, representing a 3.41% increase. This aligns with the typical annual tuition growth seen across peer institutions.

Room, board, and personal expenses also rose notably, increasing by $1,547 to reach $30,774, which reflects a 5.29% increase. This change likely accounts for inflationary adjustments in the cost of living in New Haven.

Health insurance saw a significant jump as well, climbing from $3,043 to $3,422, an increase of about 12.45%, pointing to broader national trends in rising healthcare premiums.

The program fee and textbook costs remained unchanged at $500 and $1,440, respectively.

While the overall increase is moderate, it reflects a consistent upward trend in both tuition and living expenses.

Yale MBA: Funding Tips

Merit-based scholarships are automatically considered for all Yale applicants. A separate application is not required. Scholarship recipients are notified at the time their applications are accepted. Furthermore, many outside sources provide additional funding through academic scholarships.

Scholarships are granted based on association with an industry, select demographic prioritized by the Employers, membership to a fraternal organization or ethnic group, or association with a club or an athletic organization.

Almost 54% of MBA students at Yale MBA receive scholarships with 36 students receiving full-tuition scholarships.

Yale University provides three types of loans: federal student loans, international student loans, and private loans to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

2024 Grant Data - Yale MBA

In 2024, an over $7.8 million grant was awarded to the MBA incoming students.

Let us briefly discuss all the funding options available at Yale for Funding the MBA Program.

Merit-Based Scholarships

At Yale SOM, all applications for merit-based scholarships that do not require a separate formal application are considered, and all candidates are regarded for merit-based funding. Scholarship beneficiaries are informed of their merit-based qualifications at the time of admission.

External Funding Resources

The Financial Aid Office advises students to look into various outside scholarships for which they may be eligible. The Yale Scholarship team has created a searchable scholarship database that allows students to filter by industry, region, and population. This is a significant resource to help students find external sources to finance their education.

The Yale School of Management Loan Forgiveness Program

Since its inception in 1986, the school has provided over $12 million in assistance to over 400 alumni across the country. Qualified alumni who work in the government or non-profit organizations should consider the fund.

Yale SOM Entrepreneurial Fellowship

Students who are awarded the Yale SOM Entrepreneurial Fellowship will have their student loan payments deferred for the first two years after graduation. The school pays the loan interest up to $7,000 per year. The goal is to assist entrepreneurs in devoting more time and resources to their start-ups during the critical early years.

Benefits for U.S. Military and Veterans

Yale SOM takes several proactive steps to ensure that business school is affordable for active-duty military and veterans in the United States. Yale is also named a "Military Friendly School" by GMAC. The school offers several scholarships specifically for veterans and waives application fees for US military members or veterans.

Military Scholarships provided at Yale

Post-9/11 GI Bill: At 100% eligibility, provides up to $28,937.09 (as of August 2024) toward in-state tuition and fees paid directly to Yale; excludes room, board, books, and supplies. Rates are adjusted annually by the VA.

Yellow Ribbon Program: Veterans 100% eligible under the GI Bill and approved for Yellow Ribbon by the VA receive full coverage of Yale SOM tuition and fees through combined VA and school contributions.

Veteran Readiness & Employment (Vocational Rehab): Covers full tuition, fees, and provides a monthly stipend for full- or part-time veterans with a 20% memorandum or 10% service-connected VA disability rating; does not cover medical insurance.

Military Housing Allowance (BAH): Monthly housing allowance is paid directly to recipients based on the E-5 with dependents BAH rate for the New Haven zip code 06511.

Scholarships for U.S. Military: Veterans are given equal consideration in Yale’s institutional scholarship process, which varies by program; more details are available on the U.S. Military section of the Funding Resources page.

It is easy to comment, but it is tough to structure the essay from the perspective of the applicant and turn the essay into a winning application essay.

3) Aligning with the Culture of the School

A big part of editing and guiding applicants is in educating them about the culture of the school

Some schools have very ‘specific’ traits that they are looking for in an applicant.

If you don’t highlight them and lean towards general leadership or cultural narratives, the essay won’t work.

I will guide you through the writing process.

I will also iteratively edit the essays without losing your original voice.

Yale MBA Loan Options

The Yale SOM Office of Financial Aid helps students apply for Federal, Private, and International loans.

Federal Loans

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan: Citizens and permanent residents of the United States are automatically considered for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Per academic year, students may borrow up to $20,500. For the loans lent out on or after October 1, 2021, the fixed interest rate for the 2024 academic year is 6.54%, with a 1.057% origination fee.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan: The Graduate PLUS Loan is a federal loan that allows students to borrow up to the cost of attendance excluding any other financial aid. Good credit history is required. For loans that are lent out on or after October 1, 2021, the fixed interest rate is 7.54% for the 2024 academic year, with a 4.228% origination fee.

International Students Loans: As a first step, it is recommended that all international students check out for funding in their home countries.

Suppose a student cannot secure funding in their home country. In that case, Quorum Federal Credit Union accepts loan applications from international students enrolled in SOM MBA programs who do not have a U.S. cosigner. International students may be able to borrow up to 80% of their tuition.

International students with creditworthy cosigners in the United States can use ELMSelect to learn more about different lenders. ELMSelect compares various lenders, allowing students to evaluate and choose the best one for their loan needs. This list is not about the recommended lenders but rather a list of lenders used by Yale students in the last three years. Students can choose any lender, and Yale will process a loan from any lender on students' behalf.

Private Loans for U.S. Citizens & Permanent Residents

Students at Yale SOM who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens may apply for a private loan rather than a Graduate PLUS Loan. Private loan terms, eligibility requirements, and conditions will differ. The borrower (and co-borrower, if applicable) should compare information from available student loan providers before applying for the best loan that meets their needs.

ELMSelect compares various lenders, allowing students to evaluate and choose the best one for their loan needs. This list does not depict the recommended lenders but a list of lenders our students have used in the last three years. Students have the authority and power to borrow from any lender, not just those on this list. The list of the lenders include:
•  SoFi
•  MPOWER Financing, No-Cosigner Global Loans
•  Discover Bank
•  PNC Bank
•  Sallie Mae
•  Laurel Road
•  Custom Choice Loan powered by Cognition Financial
•  Citizens
•  College Ave Student Loans
•  Prodigy Finance
