NYU Stern MBA Salary (2022-23) – Investment Banking King

The post-MBA Employment Report depicts the domination of the trio - Consulting, Finance, and Technology, at NYU Stern. A similar trend was observed at Wharton and Chicago Booth. The only difference was in Finance, where Booth and NYU Stern dominated Investment Banking, but Wharton dominated Private Equity. 

NYU Stern Full-time MBA Salary by Industry (2022)

Consulting (31.2%) and Financial Services (34.4%) remained the top industry at NYU Stern. Both industries have been showing a stagnant hiring rate for the last two years. But the third part of the trio, the Technology Industry, has observed a slight fall in the hiring rates, a 2% drop from 19.2% in 2021 to 17% in 2022.

In 2022, Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals/ Biotech saw a jump of 3% in the hiring rates, which is a positive indication for the sector. The top industries - Consulting and Financial Services, showed the highest base salary of $175,000. But the total compensation aligned with Finance exceeded that of the Consulting because of the Average signing Bonus, which was $52,437 for Finance (the highest average bonus).

Law graduates with an MBA continued to sustain their position as the best-paid industry with a post-MBA salary of $215,000.

NYU Stern Full-time MBA Salary by Function (2022)

Consulting functions, including management and strategy consulting, dominated the hiring at NYU Stern. The only difference observed was that despite hiring more graduates than Strategy, Management Consulting observed a slight decline in the hiring rates, whereas hiring rates for Strategy were more than that of 2021.

The second most popular function was Investment Banking, with a 23.9% hiring rate, which was almost 2% lower than last year. The lower hiring rates in Investment Banking have resulted in an overall decline in hiring for the Finance function.

Law ($215,000), Investment Banking ($175,000), and Management Consulting ($175,000) still maintain the position of the top functions by remuneration with the new entry of Information Technology/Data Analytics ($190,000) among the top 5.

NYU Stern Full-time MBA Salary by Locations (2022)

In 2022, 96.8% of the Stern MBAs secured employment in North America with a base pay scale of $170,000, a 1.8% increase in the number of students getting placed in North America.

3.2% Stern MBA grads were placed across Asia & Middle East (2.3%), Europe (0.5%), and Latin America & the Caribbean (0.5%).

In the US, the Northeastern region accepted 81.7% of Stern MBA graduates with a base pay scale of $175,000. The increased pay scale influenced the increase in the hiring rate in the region by 5%. The second highest number of graduates was placed on the West Coast (6%), with a median base salary of $140,000.

NYU Stern Full-time MBA - Career Service Team's Effectiveness

The school-facilitated 77.3% of the jobs, and the students initiated the remaining. This shows a decline in the percentage of school-facilitated employment, which decreased by 7%.

The decreased school-facilitated employment also resulted in less employment secured by converting the summer internships (school-facilitated), which was 46.7% compared to last year's 54%.

Full-Time Employment through On-Campus Interviews and Alumni Referrals showed positive growth. On-Campus interview offers rose from 14% to 17.6%, whereas Alumni referrals rose from 2.7% to 5%, compared to the 2021 employment data.

Online job postings and personal contacts are the primary sources of student-initiated job offers.
