Earned a Patent, Deeply influenced by the book Emotional Intelligence & Now Joining MIT Sloan MBA Program

MIT Sloan MBA Entepreneurial Student MIT Sloan MBA Program is known to attract Entrepreneurial and talented Engineering Students. Although Stanford has a better record of students starting their own company post MBA, 18% against Sloan’s 8.2%, MIT often attracts students that have started Entrepreneurial ventures, before the MBA program. We had the chance to interview Pawan Gupta, MIT Sloan Class of 2015 student, and asked him about his Entrepreneurial experience.

F1GMAT: You have two patents under your name. Can you share the details of its utility?

Pawan Gupta: The first Patent is a six-leg ladder system that can be used against any surface such as tree, electrical pole, or any uneven surface, rough terrain, and inclined plane. The legs of this ladder can move in all the three directions with relation to each other. Therefore, it becomes very flexible for any household or industrial purposes. You can use this for painting the wall, placing bulbs in streetlights or for high-end industrial applications

The second is actually not a patent but a patent under process project. This innovation talks about a real-time road traffic control system in which vehicles in a particular lane is given traffic timings to move based on the approximate number of vehicles. It uses very low cost Infrared sensors to find out the approximate density/number of vehicles in a lane and then with electronic circuits assigns more or less time as opposed to fixed traffic light timing (30 sec/60sec). This way traffic flow smoothens. When all the traffic crossways have similar systems and are interconnected through electronic circuits, the road traffic is effectively managed, saving time for commuters and huge costs for government.

F1GMAT: You had entrepreneurial aspirations right from BIT, Mesra. Tell us about the venture that you had started in College?

Pawan Gupta: I was deeply influenced by the book Emotional Intelligence: 10th Anniversary Edition; Why It Can Matter More Than IQ
by Daniel Goleman during my college days. When I saw friends at my undergraduate college taking ordinary steps and following the rat race just to score good grades, it pained me. I realized that lot could be done at my college to tranform students to world leaders. That is how I started my first company in 2008 during my final years of engineering. I started teaching life skills and importance of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) as opposed to IQ to various school students in Ranchi – 20 km from my college.

F1GMAT: Your recent stint was with Apollo Medskills? What was your role?

Pawan Gupta: I was the Centre-In-Charge of Apollo Medskills in Patna. I was unofficially the Bihar Head as I was given the responsibility to set up training centre for the company, and offer training solutions to college graduates, nurses, and doctors, and guide them with job placement in the healthcare sector. This company had a Joint Venture with National Skill Development Corporation of India, and has plans to train over 400,00 youths by 2022.
