INSEAD MBA Employment Statistics 2012

Insead MBA Job Trends 2012Insead Business School has just published the 2012 MBA Employment Report, and there are some interesting findings. Here is the summary of major trends:

• 94% of 2012 Graduates Found Job Within 3 Months of Employment
• Lowest Ever Recruitment from Finance sector - 14% Compared to 23% in 2011
• 45% Joined Corporate Sector
• 41% Joined Consulting
• Drop in Recruitment in Western Europe
• Increase in Recruitment across Asia, Africa and Middle East
• Middle East Recruitment activity dominated by UAE and Lebanon

The employment report is based on statistics from 997 MBA graduates with an average age of 29 years, represented predominantly (38%) by 5 to 7 years experienced candidates. Asia Pacific Region (30%) had the largest representation in 2011-12 class, whereas if you look at the undergraduate degree: Engineering and Business students formed the major chunk of the class (57%).  The overall annual median salary of the class is €89,000 with average sign-on bonus of €15,900.

Best Paying Region

If post-MBA increase in salary is a criterion, Northern Europe offered the best Median Salary at €116,400 with a range of €84,000 to €199,200. Interestingly, Southern Europe was the lowest paying region with a median salary of €72,800. The range of salary gives hints on the diversity of jobs in the region, impact of the economy on market demand, currency variation across countries in the region and the job acceptance pattern among candidates working in these regions. Asia Pacific has the widest range of salaries with the lowest offer at €17,200 and highest at €171,600.

Salary Growth

When you consider the top economies that are represented in Insead MBA Class, the only country with a substantial growth in Salary was Brazil, showing an increase of Real 7,000 in 2012. France remained stagnant at €85,000 while Germany, Singapore and United States showed negative growth in Salary. This can be attributed to the low attrition rate among management professionals in these regions, offering little negotiating opportunities for new MBAs.

Post MBA Job Trends

Consulting continues to be the most preferred job sector and function for INSEAD MBA students. Finance as a Job Function saw one of the weakest years in INSEAD’s history with just 14% of the class opting for this function. General Management, Marketing & Sales, and Business Development roles were the three job functions that were popular among MBA students.

Western Europe and Asia Pacific were two regions where students found the most job opportunities. Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea contributed towards this trend, while strong showing from Germany, and signs of comebacks from France, UK and Netherlands attracted more MBA students to Western Europe.
