How Haas MBA attracts 7% from the Military

Berkeley Haas at UC Berkeley and military applicants have two common leadership principles - "Confidence Without Attitude," and "Beyond Yourself." The match in values has fostered a dynamic ecosystem that includes a Career Management Group, peer support, and a dedicated Veterans Club to assist military applicants in transitioning to civilian life.

Percentage from the Military: Berkeley Haas takes pride in its diverse cohort, with 7% of students representing veterans and military personnel. Among the peer military schools, the representation is in the top quartile.

Curriculum: While Haas does not offer a specific military-focused curriculum, the program includes courses and initiatives that align with military leadership and development. Programs like LAUNCH, the startup accelerator at Haas, offer students opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial skills. "Leading People" and "Leadership Communication" emphasize teamwork and communication in corporate culture - important perspectives for military veterans transitioning to the business world.

Student Clubs: The Haas Veterans Club, founded in 2008, plays a crucial role in supporting U.S. and international military veterans at Haas. Membership is open not only to veterans but also to students pursuing careers in the defense industry and anyone interested in understanding military service better with the goal of supporting the transition to civilian industries, mentorship, networking with other military networks, and serving the Haas, UC Berkeley, and Bay Area communities.

Funding: Haas is part of the public University of California system, which benefits from the expanded Post-9/11 Benefits. The school participates in the VA's Yellow Ribbon Program to fund tuition and fees not covered by other awards.

Support for Military Spouses
Through the Fry Scholarship, Haas supports military applicants and spouses of service members, who died in the line of duty. Eligible spouses (after September 10, 2001) receive 36 months of full benefits, equal to 100% of the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
