SCC (Stern Consulting Corps) program, the 10-week consulting engagement, is one of the popular experiences where aspiring consultants from Stern Full-time MBA analyze the organization’s problems and break them down into its elements.
Students offer a six-step solution:
- Initiating the project
- Setting up the quantitative toolkit
- Performing qualitative and process analysis
- Developing risk management and implementation plan
- Creating the final presentation
- Doing an end-to-end analysis
The program, unlike industry-based immersion, cuts across disciplines and provides a fuller understanding of the organization and the impact the decision has on each department.
With the consulting engagement, NYU full-time MBA Students offer real solutions to organizations as diverse as city Harvest, WWF, UNICEF, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Harlem RBI, and Eileen Fisher.
The project is implemented in conjunction with a 1.5 credit course, ‘Consulting Practice: Process and Problem Solving.’
The Senior Management expects Stern MBA to bring their functional expertise in strategy, marketing, financial analysis, and operations to the project. More than the experience, organizations expect consultants to do fact-based analysis and look at problems with a critical eye.
In the classroom, students learn how consultants approach complex problems, and during the SCC project, they apply the concepts to real business challenges. With immediate feedback on what is working and what is not, students develop a deeper understanding of the consultative process.
