IIMA PGP Placement Trends and Salary (2021)

IIMA PGP placements are organized in two stages. The first stage places candidates back to their employer in mid-level managerial positions. The second stage opens profile-specific opportunities in Consulting, Technology, General Management, Marketing, and Finance.

IIMA PGP Salary by Industry (2021)

45% of the IIMA PGP Class (374) sought employment back to the employers through the lateral placement process (first stage) that covered Technology, Consulting, Financial Services, E-Commerce/Online Services, and Pharma industries. Among the leading recruiters taking back candidates to mid-level managerial positions were Deloitte, Microsoft, Infoedge, Oracle, Paytm, and Unacademy.

Consulting lead in IIMA PGP placements for the 2021 graduating class attracting 44% of all offers with a total median salary of INR 25,73,800. A close second in remuneration was Finance/Banking (16%), which attracted a total salary of INR 24,70,000. Engineering, although in the lower percentile among industries for median base salary, compensated with a record INR 5 lac guaranteed cash payment, taking the total ahead of Information Technology to INR 24,25,000. The lowest total salary was in Consumer Services at INR 20,18,182.

Finance earned the title of the best maximum salary for IIMA PGP – INR 42,00,000 for 2021. Consulting was second at INR 40 lacs. Consumer Services with 3% of the offers crossed the 30 lacs threshold. For the rest of the industries, the maximum salary range was between Rs 22 lacs and 25 lacs for 2021, while the minimum ranged from Rs. 9,00,000 (Engineering) to Rs. 18,00,000 (Online Service/E-Commerce).

The one-time cash payment or bonus was a bigger incentive for E-Commerce/Online services and Engineering with offers that had an impressive Rs 5,00,00 one time cash payment while all the other industries had a 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 payment range.

IIMA PGP Salary by Function (2021)

Close to half the class at IIM, Ahmedabad accepted an offer in Consulting with a median base salary of Rs. 23,73,800 and a guaranteed bonus/cash of INR 2,00,000 taking the total median salary to Rs 25,73,800. Finance was the second most popular function, with a total median salary of INR 24,50,000. Although only 7% of the class chose Product Management, the total remuneration was third on IIMA PGP’s top 6 post-PGP function list. Marketing Sales with a lower base and bonus was the third most popular function (10%), taking in Rs. 22,50,000 in total median salary. General Management was at the bottom of the list for Guaranteed Bonus and total salary, slightly ahead of Business Development on Median base salary.

97% of the placements were in India, with Mumbai finding the most offers (27%), ahead of Bangalore (18%), while the remuneration was the highest in Gurgaon – 29 lacs while Hyderabad and Mumbai were tied at 27 lacs each. Bangalore was in the middle (28 lacs). Candidates moving to Tier-2 cities received offers that ranged from 20 lacs to 24 lacs, with the only exception being Kolkata, which had the lowest total median salary (18.8 lacs).

IIMA PGP Top Employers (2021)

McKinsey and BCG lead in the top Employers hiring at IIMA with more than 30 offers each, while GEP – a boutique consulting firm, was the third most popular. Tata Consulting service was the only IT consulting company on the leaderboard, while the bottom half of the ranking was occupied by Investment Banking firms – Nomura, Avendus, and Goldman Sachs.

Birla led in offering General Management roles to the cohort, with Samsung and HUL filling the Consumer Goods and Electronics category.
