MBA Admission Tips for Veterans

The strategy that a vet should use in the interview can change depending on who the interviewer is.  If the interviewer is a vet, the applicant should be more straight-forward with the military experience and can highlight other areas of his/her application.  If the interviewer is not a vet, the applicant should explain more of the military experience in civilian terms and can use “war-stories” to really grab the attention of the interviewer.

MBA - A Good Idea during Recession?

There’s never a perfect time to get an MBA, just like tying the knot or getting your butt kicked by the town bully. However there are a few factors that might positively influence your application. Like experience and versatility. Right now, there might be a few, make that quite a lot, of people who are second guessing their earlier decision to enter the MBA rat race. With the recession not quite bottomed out yet, it’s hard to refute their concerns.

Why should I take an MBA?

One of the main questions that every business school asks, is why on earth would you throw away your job, in order to undergo the rigors of assignments and presentations again. Come to think of it, that’s exactly something your parents and your friends would ask you too!

The reasons behind both segments of questioners are different. The business school wants to know for sure, that you are motivated and have an idea of where you want to be. They (at least the good ones) wouldn’t want people showing up to class just for the kick of having this degree.  Business schools are run just like companies. One of their final products being, the knowledge that they provide, which for the best part would tend to be intangible in nature. But the main product that they would churn out of their production line, so to speak, would be you and others like you. Now, who’s going to trust a company when the product they offer is not up to global standards.
