Yale MBA stands out for its placements in consulting, with 54.3% of MBA graduates choosing consulting function and 46% entering the consulting industry. The peer schools - Ross and Haas, also fared well among the top consulting schools. 29% at HAAS and 35% at Ross was the hiring percentage for the Consulting function. But regarding the compensation of the Consulting Function, all three peer schools are tied with a $175,000 Median base Salary.
Yale MBA 2022 class saw a $20,000 hike, taking the median base salary to $160,000. Yale's median salary is ahead of HAAS’ $155,000 but lags behind Ross’ $165,000. Another distinct trend not seen in top US Business Schools is the 11% of offers that come from the Retail and FMCG industries.
Yale Full-time MBA Salary by Industry (2022)
Historically, Yale MBA graduates have preferred the consulting industry. Beating the last year's record, in 2022, 12% more were placed in the industry. 26% of graduates entered the industry in 2022, with McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, and EY taking up most of the talent.
Although the hiring rate of the Finance industry declined by 3.3%, it continued to become the second preferred industry for MBA graduates, with 21.7 percent of the class choosing the industry that includes Investment Banking (9.9%), Private Equity (1.9%), and Venture Capital (2.3%). The total salary was $212,000, with a higher Median Base salary ($162,000) than Ross ($140,000) and Haas ($140,000).
The hike in the Consulting hiring rate has impacted all the other industries, where Technology faced a 2.2% and Retail faced a 3.5% decline in the hiring rate. Despite having reduced the hiring rate to 6.5%, Retail had the highest total salary of $219,000. Apart from Consulting Services industry, Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals also observed a significant increase in the hiring rate from 2.9% to 3.8%, with a $16,000 increase in salary.

Yale Full-time MBA Salary by Function (2022)
Consulting (53.6%) took the top spot for post-MBA hires by function, with more than half of the class opting for the specialization, followed by Finance and Accounting at the second spot (24%), as has been the case traditionally. After the decline in the hiring rates of the consulting industry in the year 2020 (44%), it has been consecutively increasing for two years, with the highest in the year 2022.
The two functions also managed to secure the highest total salary, with the Consulting median base salary ($170,000) falling short of peer schools by $5,000. The total salary for Marketing and Sales declined by $6000 at $169,000 ahead of peer school – Ross ($157,000) but overtook by Haas($171,000).
General Marketing and Marketing/Sales showed an inverse relationship between hiring rates and total salary. On the one hand, Marketing/Sales increased hiring rates from 8.8% to 11.4%; they decreased the total salary by $6,000. Similarly, in the General Management function, hiring rates declined from 9.6% to 4.2% but observed a rise in total salary of almost $10,000.
The $40,000 bonus for General Management is the highest bonus among all top schools.

Yale Full-time MBA Salary by Locations (2022)
91.2% of the hires were from the United States, with candidates from the Northeast comprising close to 54 percent of the U.S hires. The median base salary for those from the northeast reached $165,000 - the highest median base salary. The West region also offered a similar remuneration with a 21.5% hiring rate.
Compared to the placement data of 2021, the hiring rate does not show any drastic change in 2022 except for Mid-Atlantic, which saw a 5% hike, and Midwest, which saw a 3% decline in hiring rates.
The major changes were observed in the salary pattern. The overall median base salary for both the international region and the US region has been increased. The US region saw a $15,000 increase in salary, whereas the international region saw an almost $22,000 hike in median base salary. The West region in the US has shown a drastic $30,000 hike in annual median salary, with the Southwest region facing a $20,000 decrease in median base salary.
International hires were close to 8 percent of the class, with a median base salary of $124,000. Asia (39.1 %) had the highest offers, followed by Europe (17.4%), Central American and the Caribbean (17.4%), Canada (17.4%), and South America (4.3%). Additionally, the Yale SOM management was recently reported to have been making space for more incoming international students.
International students received job offers at a rate similar to U.S. citizens and permanent residents, with 98.5% receiving an offer three months after graduation.
