The Government of India in consultation with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Indian Banker's Association (IBA) has framed a Comprehensive Educational Loan Scheme. The scheme envisages a loan of up to INR 7.5 lacs for studies in India and INR 15 lacs for studies abroad. These are not stringent figures though. State Bank of India’s upper limit for such loans is INR 20 lacs and recently the India bank has upgraded its maximum permissible loan up to INR 15 lacs for studies in India and INR 25 lacs for studies abroad. So, the limits may vary with the change in the schemes and of course, time.
However, to avail a loan of any amount, satisfying the eligibility criteria of the bank is a prerequisite....

“When you have lived in and been integrated into more than one culture, exposure to a different mindset changes your own. After that first long sojourn abroad, the true culture shock comes on your first trip back home. People ask seemingly ignorant and annoying questions. You realize that your countrymen’s knowledge of the world is limited to a mixture of TV, myths and illogical conjecture. Their prejudices seem shockingly narrow.” -SkyFrontier

This is a question that goes in the mind of every test taker. When should I really start preparing? Well the answer depends on when do you want to attend the business school. GMAT scores are valid for a couple of years (5) and thus if you are not planning as soon as you give the GMAT then this is not a concern for you. This post is intended more for people who want to finish the process- from GMAT to attending a B school- in a single shot- meaning take the GMAT and then apply for the schools right away.
That needs some planning and you need to understand the application process of the B schools. Let me cover a little bit about the application process. Most of the schools have a couple of rounds in the...

You’re having lunch with your friend Jane, and you suggest getting hot fudge sundaes for dessert; Jane tells you that she doesn’t eat hot fudge sundaes. In real life, you could draw several valid inferences from this: she’s lactose intolerant, she has sensitive teeth and so can’t eat frozen desserts, she’s on a diet and trying to avoid sweets, or maybe she just doesn’t like ice cream or hot fudge.
In real life, those would all be acceptable inferences, because the real-world definition of infer is to do any of the following:
1. to derive by reasoning; conclude or judge from premises or evidence: e.g., They inferred his anger from his heated denial. 2. (of facts,...

mbaMission: How are candidates’ files reviewed at Darden?
SN: Each file is reviewed at least three times, and it may be reviewed as many as eight times, because there are eight people on the Admissions Committee. We spend a lot of time with your file. It is very important that we read everything about you. We don’t triage by score—every reader gets a set of files, and they’re randomly assigned initially so that we really are treating everyone equally and giving everyone the same amount of time. And we will read everything that comes as part of your application: your essays, your recommendations, everything. The first two readers combined will make a decision about whether to invite someone for an interview. If...

Prep materials & schedule

Probability questions are becoming increasingly common. Probability questions tend to be bundled among the difficult questions, so high scorers will commonly encounter them. If you are a low scorer and are pressed for time, consider skipping most of the material past "Simple Probability." This is a computer-adaptive test, and low scorers aren't likely to encounter the most difficult probability question types.

GMAT Divisibility Rule to cram
Dividing by 2
1. All even numbers are divisible by 2. E.g., all numbers ending in 0,2,4,6 or 8.
Dividing by 3

Deciding whether and how to take an mba program is – for many people – also a financial issue. MBA programs are not cheap, the fee is often substantial – but to this must be added the living costs, cost of materials, travel anf for full time programs – the loss of income for the period of the program. For many people therefore this is one of their largest financial decisions.
In some countries there are some tax benefits – e.g. the fees for certain types of program attract tax relief. Some people may be fortunate and get support from their employer – but many must...

Example: Find the least common multiple for 5, 6, and 15.
1. First we list the multiples of each number.
Multiples of 5 are 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40,...
Multiples of 6 are 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48,...
