MBA Application Essay Questions


Stanford Graduate School of Business has announced the Essay Questions for the Class of 2016, entering Fall 2014. An interesting point that the Adcom mentions about the word limit is that the combined word limits of Essay 1, 2 and 3 should not exceed 1600 words. This gives the applicants the flexibility to write less or more in one essay without worrying about meeting the word limit of each essay. Having said that, applicants are recommended to meet the word limits of each essay without looking too forced.

Ross Full-time MBA Essay Questions for Fall 2014 Entering Class has been released. The major changes seen in this year’s questions compared to last year are:

1) The world limit has been reduced drastically in the 2014 essays. For example, in the first question to “introduce yourself to future Ross MBA Classmates,” the word limit is a meager 100 words. The maximum word limit is for an essay with 400 words. It would be interesting to see how applicants respond to this challenge. We will cover the tips and guidelines to answer Ross MBA Essay questions.

2) The essay questions can be broadly categorized under Introduction, Motivation, Post MBA Goals, and Emotional Intelligence.

Columbia MBA essays for 2013-14 have been released. The big difference this year has been the shift of focus from Columbia as a community to New York City. The AdCom wants to know how NYC as a place would support applicants to reach their post-MBA goals. The number of mandatory questions required this year is four. The third essay is interesting where the applicants have to reveal a personal aspect of them that is unique such that other participants would be “be pleasantly surprised.” For essay two, applicants have to watch two videos about New York City before writing the essays. Columbia MBA Applicants must complete one short answer and three essays.
