Does your race have anything to do with a successful Job Search?

According to Herald Tribune, despite decades of progression in the black community, when it comes to the job market for the MBAs, employers tend to prefer a white employee to a black one. It seems a little plausible and we might question the facts with the argument that maybe education has something to do with the disparity in the unemployment ratio among blacks and whites.

An interesting statistics to support the disparity quoted from Bureau of Labor Statistics (US – September 2009) and the academic journal 'Social Problems'

• The unemployment rate for black male college graduates 25 and older was more than twice that of white male college graduates -- 9.1 percent compared with 4.5 percent.

• If your name has any hint that you are black, statistics shows that you are 50% less likely to get a call for an interview

• According to ‘Social Problems’, a white male receive substantially higher job leads for high-level supervisory positions compared to women and members of minorities.

People who oppose this argument usually cite President Barack Obama's election as a prime example of racial equality. However, most of them agree that preference for black employees when an equally qualified white employee is available culminates only from a desire to create diversity in the team.
